The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has directed the Principal of Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar, to immediately address the acute shortage of Factor-VIII and Emicizumab, noting that nearly 300 Hemophilia patients are being adversely affected.
Hearing a Public Interest Litigation filed by the Hemophilia Society of Kashmir, a Bench of Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Kumar and Justice Mohd Yousuf Wani observed, “Let the Principal, Government Medical College, Srinagar, ensure that the aforesaid deficiency is immediately addressed so that no patient suffers for want of Factor-VIII and Emicizumab.”
The Court further directed that any requisition made by the Principal for these medicines must be acted upon promptly by the J&K Medical Supplies Corporation Ltd. or any other authority responsible for procurement, observing that it “shall be responded to forthwith… without any avoidable delay.”
The Bench also directed the Principal, GMC Srinagar, to file a compliance affidavit within two weeks. The matter has been listed for further hearing on August 10, 2026.
