The High Court Bar Association at Jammu in a notice has prohibited general public and litigants from wearing an advocate’s attire within the Court premises.
The notice issued by the Bar Association Joint Secretary, Anshu Mahajan said that any clerk, litigant or any individual from the general public found wearing the advocate’s attire will be presumed to be a tout and appropriate action will be taken against the violator under the law.
“It is hereby notified that no clerk, litigant, or member of the general public is permitted to wear a white shirt, black pants and black coat during their visit to the Court Complex. Anyone found violating the said notification shall be treated as tout and appropriate action under law shall be initiated against the violator including filing of formal complaint against such persons,” the notice stated.
The Lawyers Association has emphasised that the specific dress code is the professional identity to lawyers and it should not be misused by touts identifying themselves as lawyers or law practitioners.
The notice was issued about impersonation and unauthorised conduct within court premises.
Meanwhile, the Association has asked advocates to ensure that their interns maintain Court decorum by wearing a proper uniform, including a black necktie, while strictly refraining from wearing the white necktie associated with practising lawyers.
