High court calls for weekly hearing on Dal Lake

To address timely disposal of issues concerning the lake  

Srinagar: The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir has called for weekly hearing on the Dal Lake matter for timely disposal of issues concerning the Lake. 

“Considering the importance and significance of the issues involved in this plea, we are of the view that this litigation should be scheduled for hearing at least once a week”, court of Chief Justice said. 

The bench led by Chief Justice N.Kotiswar Singh and Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal ordered concerned authorities to submit their perspectives on how to address issues like the cleanliness of the lake, stopping flow of sewage into the lake, stoppage and removal of unauthorised constructions around the lake and management of problems concerning the houseboats. 

The court noted that after receiving input from the authorities, this court will properly be able to pass appropriate orders. 

Earlier, the court had directed immediate intervention to identify issues that concern the Lake’s fragility and ecological balance. 

The litigation on Dal Lake before court has been pending since 2002 and since then High court has passed slew of orders.
